David Lloyd, Distinguished Professor of English at the University of California, Riverside, is a poet, playwright and critic, working primarily on Irish culture and on postcolonial, cultural and aesthetic theory. His most recent critical books include Beckett’s Thing: Painting and Theatre (2016) and Under Representation: The Racial Regime of Aesthetics (2019). Poetry collections include Arc & Sill: Poems 1979-2009 (2012) and Dark Room (forthcoming 2022) and his play, The Press/Le Placard, is available in a bilingual edition from Presses Universitaires du Midi, 2018.
Professor Lloyd will provide an update on the UCR Scholars at Risk Program. The Program is launching a crowdfunding campaign to respond to the urgent need to help Afghan academics, artists, lawyers, and civil society actors—especially women—to flee the country due to the Taliban takeover.
The campaign proceeds will directly support critical resources needed to get Afghan scholars and their families to the U.S. such as transportation, visa-related costs, health insurance, and basic needs expenses to join our campus community and continue their education, research, and teaching in a safe environment.
